I don’t know about you, but I’ve found 2021 to be more of a challenge than 2020 was (I honestly didn’t think that was possible). I feel like it’s been a long, often heavy year, with a lot of ups and downs and from the many conversations I’ve had with friends, family and colleagues, it seems as though I’m not alone in feeling this way. Yet here we are with just over a month left of 2021 – we’ve almost made it through – we’re in the home stretch!

It recently occurred to me that there is one thing that I can pretty much always count on to help improve my mood, increase my energy, and shift my mindset and that one thing is great music and dancing! It helps me release stress and let go of things that aren’t serving me. It gets me out of my head and into my body.  It brings me joy and makes me feel good. I’ve actually realized it’s pretty much impossible for me to be in a bad mood when I’m dancing to one of my favourite tunes.  I also realized that I don't throw on good tunes and move my body just for fun nearly often enough.

So, in the spirit of that and in an effort to end 2021 on a positive note, I’ve decided to create a December Dance Challenge. I’m challenging myself and anyone who’s up to join me to dance for a minimum of 5 minutes every day, starting December 1st for the rest of 2021

I’ve recruited a bunch of friends and colleagues who are up for the challenge and I’m creating a group on a chat app (I’m using Signal), so that everyone in the group can check in daily once they’ve completed their dancing. I’m asking everyone to check in with a song they danced to as a way to give us all some good ideas for other fun songs we can use. I personally love the accountability, connection and support that comes from doing things with a group but this part is totally optional. You can absolutely do the challenge on your own, with one buddy or with your family (hello - family dance party)!

If you’re reading this and thinking, I’d love to do something that could improve my mood, energy and mindset but I’m just not into dancing, then I invite you to think of it as just moving your body in any way you want to awesome, uplifting music. I encourage you to get out of your comfort zone and just see what happens. There is no down side to doing this and if you miss a day or two, it doesn’t matter – no one’s keeping track or judging you – just start again the next day.

I’m doing this challenge because I believe it has the potential to lift me mentally, spiritually and physically (as I head into what is always the most hectic, stressful and overwhelming time of the year for me), and I know that I can commit to anything for 5 minutes a day.  And I truly believe that dancing and music might be just the thing we all need to re-connect – to ourselves, to each other, to our joy, and to feeling good.

So what do you say? Are you up for the challenge? Are you up for improving your energy, mood and mindset, not to mention reducing stress, lowering inflammation in the body and promoting your brain health? Are you down to end 2021on a high? Then let’s do this!

ethical. sustainable. resellable.

just the best kids clothes on the planet

Since 2008, we've made the softest, the snuggest, the coziest, the coolest baby, toddler, and kids clothes on the planet, created ethically at factories that pay employees a living wage, with sustainable materials that don't leave our planet worse off than we found it. We believe in passing it on, and our stuff is built to be beautifully outgrown, resold, and reworn by kid after kid after kid. We make our best basics for their best future, and we're so happy you and your little minimalist are part of the famm.
